About us

The Jamaica Institute of Bankers (JIOB) was established in 1977 by the Bank of Jamaica and the Commercial Banks. In 1999 the Jamaica Bankers Association assumed full responsibility for the operations of the JIOB. The main objective of the institute is to satisfy the training and educational needs of the business and finance sector. In addition to offering short-termed training courses and seminars, it offers an MBA programme through the Manchester Business School. The Institute is registered by the University Council of Jamaica as a tertiary educational institution.

MBA Programme

The MBA for financial managers and specialists is a unique “Distance Learning” part – time programme that is designed for flexibility and offers the opportunity for the individual to gain a world class MBA regardless of geographic location. The programme is delivered for Manchester Business School Worldwide.

Geared for professionals who wish to combine work and study, minimizing opportunity cost, the distance learning programme offers a cost- effective alternative of equal academic standing to a full time on-campus programme. learn more




short courses

The Institute offers a number of training courses and seminars tailored to the needs of businesses in all sectors. This is in keeping with its mandate to promote and facilitate excellent education, training and information services for the continuous professional development of the individual. These programmes range from the half-day seminars to five-day workshops, as well as in-house training. A JIOB Certificate of Participation is usually presented to each successful participant on the completion of training. JIOB is now THE JAMAICA INSTITUTE OF FINANCIAL SERVICES

The Jamaica Institute of Bankers (JIOB), a subsidiary of the Jamaica Bankers Association formed in 1977, has been re-branded as The Jamaica Institute of Financial Services (JIFS). The organization’s new name reflects a mandate to offer its range of training services to the entire financial services sector, and not just to the banking sector. In making the announcement official, JIFS Chair Mrs Pamela Smith noted that: “the Council of the JIFS recognizes the need to upgrade the competencies of professionals in the financial services industry with cutting edge training and certification programmes and the new name for the Institute will allow for more effective marketing of the training programmes to a range of players in the industry”. Jamaican Student receives most Outstanding Award

Jamaican, Richard Lumsden, was awarded Best Joint Overall Student for Manchester Business School Worldwide (MBSW)for the year 2006/2007. The presentation was made at the MBSW Caribbean Centre’s 10 th Presentation of GraduatesCeremony held on September 22, 2007 at the Hilton Kingston Hotel. Richard Lumsden was also the Valedictorian for the Graduating Class. Thirty-two of the fifty-four 2006/2007 graduates attended the ceremony, at which Professor Kenneth Green, Deputy Director of Manchester Business School, was the guest speaker.
